Roofing - The Anatomy of an Asphalt Shingle

The difference starts with:

  1. Heavyweight Fibreglass Mat
We use one of the heaviest fibreglass mats in the industry, manufactured in our state-of-the-art plant. With a nominal 2-lb base, it’s engineered for superior strength and tear-resistance.
  2. Superior Asphalt
Our local plants process their own asphalt to IKO’s specifications and strictest standards of quality control. The result? Long-lasting weather-proofing. The more weather-proofing asphalt we use to coat the shingles, the longer the limited warranty period and the better the granule adhesion.
Anatomy
  1. colour Granules
We mine, then crush our own granules at regional manufacturing plants. They’re extremely hard and durable, for maximum asphalt protection against the elements.

Our patented computer colour blending technology ensures uniform and consistent colour control. It also creates colour gradations and a dimensional appearance that result in the industry’s most stunning variety of roof colours. Some even mimic the look of natural slate and wood shakes!

IKO’s AR granules provide added protection against the unsightly black streaks that gleocapsa algae can cause, especially in maritime or humid climates. Now even light-coloured roofs will keep looking great longer.
  2. Modified Lamination Adhesive
Because the adhesive is designed to be more flexible and durable, IKO’s laminated shingles can handle the most extreme weather conditions. Plus they can be installed on a wide variety of roof slopes and shapes, even in very hot or very cold temperatures.
  3. Modified Sealant
IKO’s rubberized asphalt provides superior resistance to wind blow-off. In cold weather, some sealants can fracture. But IKO’s sealant is made of rubberized asphalt, for exceptional adhesion and superior wind blow-off resistance. Tough and tenacious, it seals your roof at lower temperatures than most traditional sealants.
